A little one in my family brought up today how he has been packing 2 lunches for himself and another little boy in his class that is being denied hot lunch at school due to no money on his lunch account and not being signed up for free lunch.
Everyday this little one is given a cold cheese sandwich while the rest of the kids enjoy their meals. He doesn’t get a choice and if he doesn’t want the cold plain cheese sandwich he doesn’t get to eat lunch that day. In my personal opinion, the schools are often concerned with equality of all the students and “everyone winning” and I’m shocked that LUNCH is where some are left out and that is made to be okay. This is how many districts handle lunch accounts. I think of my daughters being in kindergarten and 4th grade and I can’t really picture kids their age being forced to sit at lunch everyday and wish they had what the others do or wonder why only they have to have a sandwich of shame everyday..
One may assume its the parents fault for not turning in the free lunch application, or maybe the parent should put money in the said child’s lunch account but maybe the parent is struggling to make ends meet or keep a home. We all have struggles most people don’t know and Regardless of why the child is denied a decent lunch, it’s not the child’s fault.
My goal is to raise money for the schools to put in the students delinquent lunch accounts so they can purchase a hot lunch like the rest of the kids. If a few students got lunch it would all be worth it.
