Hello Everyone,
A week ago, on Nov. 23rd, while my human was away on a business trip I suffered a serious injury while I was out doing what I love. I was on a hike with my friend and took a tumble off the trail landing head first and fracturing my neck.
I was rushed to the hospital unable to use my legs and scared to death as I wasn't sure what happened. My human, Dean, was called and started to make his way home from his business trip in Colorado to be by my side. At first the doctors weren't sure I was going to make it as they weren't sure what my exact injury was. As I lay in the hospital I was thinking about my best friend, Dean, and I knew he was on his way. He made it to me Sunday morning and it was a tough reunion. I could tell he was divested to see me in the condition I was in, but I was so happy he was there.
I spent the week in ICU getting the best care I could and daily visits. I was able to come home on Thanksgiving to start my re-hab which is going to be a very long road. Dean has to travel back to Colorado to continue his job and I need to head to therapy as my condition needs experienced personnel to care for me. As of right now, I am still unable to move my legs as I took a shock to my nervous system. Lucky me, though I have been gaining sensation every day and I am on the way to recovery.
Dean is working hard to keep me fed and in a nice home. His friendship and love is what has kept me going. Unfortunately he can't do it all by himself which is why we are reaching out to our friends and family for help with the cost of my rehab and therapy. I need to be under supervised care for the next few weeks to make sure I get the attention I need as these next few weeks are super critical. I have ongoing acupuncture, laser treatment from the Chiropractor as well as medications I need to take.
I love my life and want to continue on as we still have more chapters to write in our story. I want to make more road trips to Colorado with Dean and attend more bike races and days at the beach. My spirits are high and I am ready to get back out there. Any little bit you can spare to help would be great. I know Dean would do the same for any of you if you were in need. This is a rough patch but if we all pull together as a community we can get through this together.
