Medical Mission for Syrian Refugees

Donation protected
Syrian refugees displaced by armed conflict and faced with the plight of poverty, poor living conditions and inadequate healthcare now find themselves at the mercy of freezing temperatures and snow during an unseasonably frigid winter. Join me in an effort to alleviate suffering among Syrian refugees living in refugee camps in Jordan.

The Mission

Between January 16, 2014 and January 24, 2014, I hope to join Salaam Cultural Center's Medical Mission on their journey to several camps in Northern Jordan which are home to over 120,000 Syrian refugees. As a public health graduate student and an aspiring medical professional, I hope to offer assistance to medical teams attending to Syrian refugees in clinics, hospitals, child care centers and rehabilitation centers. Daily assignments will focus on dental health, spinal cord injury care and mental health. To complement these efforts, I will also be involved in sorting and distributing donated food, medication, blankets and children's school supplies; offering women's health education; providing translation services; and working with women and children at refugee camp facilities.

Help Me Help Others

I am soliciting the help of my friends and family so I may join the health professionals affiliated with the Salaam Cultural Center this January. My ability to become involved with this medical mission is contingent on adequate funding. As all team members and their contributions are self-funded, I am reaching out to you with the following fundraising goals in mind:

(1) $650 for transportation between camps in Jordan;
(2) $500 for clothing donations ($350) and extra baggage fees ($75/bag x 2) to deliver winter clothes by hand; and
(3) $3,700 for a 40 foot shipping container that will carry donated EMERGENCY winter clothes (jackets, boots, sweaters, hats, gloves, etc.), medical supplies and blankets that will be sent to refugees at the Zaatari Camp and from which our medical team will distribute.

Once there is enough money collected and a shipping container has been financed through your generous contributions, the Seattle community members who have already graciously committed to separately collecting clothing donations have offered to fill the container in as little as 24 hours!

TOTAL: $5,000
FUNDRAISING END DATE: January 10, 2014

Your kind donation towards my $5,000 goal will allow me to join a program that is focused on alleviating suffering among refugees at a time when severe weather has made already difficult living conditions unbearable. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help!
