Hello everyone and thank you for your generous consideration. My name is Amanda Decker and my sister Megan and I want to help our Aunt Mary Kaye and her family with the financial burden of this terrible tragedy she is working through. Thank god she has lived through this, but may have a long road to full recovery. The last thing we want them to have to worry about is the financial aspect of this: and pray their energy and focus can be placed toward a full recovery.

Our Aunt Mary was rushed to the hospital in Colorado Springs on Thursday night with chest pains and shortness of breath. Soon after arrival she went into cardiac arrest and was resuscitated twice in the emergency room. Our Uncle Matt and cousin Aubrey were there by her side.: you could only imagine the terror and fear of seeing his spouse and her mother passing before there eyes. After 11 minutes of CPR they were able to bring her back and stabilize her enough to perform a MRI which discovered that she had multiple blood clots in both her lungs. They quickly moved her to ICU (where she still resides today), and attached all sorts of machines that were keeping her alive. At approx. 3:30am her blood pressure spiked to 280/180 and then dropped dramatically causing her to code for the third time that evening. They had to perform CPR again and was again successful in bringing her back to life: However, the Doctor cautioned the family that "if" she survived, which was doubtful, she would be brain dead. (There was not a "may" or "probably" in that sentence.) We were all devastated and could not believe this was happening.

Then about 6:30am the nurses were trying to get a response and Mary Kay was instructed to move her right hand, which she did and then her left, which she did. It only gets better and better from there. Later on in that day she was able to use sign language to ask for water. A few hours later she wrote "ice" on a piece of paper. They were able to remove her breathing tube on Saturday and they allowed all of the family that could be there by her side (eleven family members) in to see her at once. Although she couldn't speak as her throat was so sore, she mouthed the words "Wow" and "I love you." She even smiled. Sunday morning they got her out of bed and she sat in a chair for 1 1/2 hours. Her long term memory is fine. She remembers all her family and friends. Her short term memory is not good. Her brain seems to reboot every few minutes but it's getting longer in between re-boots and evidently that's pretty typical. She has amazed the medical staff. A few of the nurses that were there on Friday morning had not seen her since then and came in today. They were literally in tears when they saw how wonderfully she was doing.

Today, Monday November 25th she will celebrate her 47th birthday! Thank you lord for saving her life.

We are all so amazed with her determination and strength to pull through this. Our parents kept us aware of the progress and the love she received from all that were there by her side: I want to give a special THANK YOU to them all: Aunt Mary is blessed to have such a strong family foundation and amazing friends.

May God bless you all and thank you for your consideration. Thanksgiving means so much more this year !! Have a safe and happy Holiday.
