Over the past five years, I have been describing the place I live as "a little cabin on the side of a mountain adjacent to the Shenandoah National Forest." It has the romantic feel and privacy of an artist's retreat... and it was, until the last few months. First, I lost my teaching job at a local private boys' school because they were consolidating positions and getting rid of part-time teachers. Next, I suffered a series of cardiac problems that resulted in three hospitalizations in which I received a ICD defibrillator and a stent in a clogged cardiac vein graft. Third, during this entire Spring and Summer, central Virginia has received an unprecedented amount of drenching rain which completely washed out the curvy, steep gravel road I live at the top of. 
To top everything off, last month my neighbor placed three huge rocks across my only other means to get back and forth to my house. I have used this lane for five years, since it was built, long before he purchased the property, and unexpectedly, he blocked it. I have ruined two cars trying to get to my house on the ruined road. The owner (who does not live here, but rents his cabin out) is not at all flexible in his decision to block the road despite my offer to pay him for its use, and to not use the lane when he has guests staying here. I am literally between three rocks and a hard place!
I am still in the middle of serious hospital cardiac rehab and doctor visits, possible job interviews, and the need to transport things like wood for my wood stove, propane, and groceries. There is little hope of getting the road fixed soon, and the problems with my heart make it difficult and dangerous to attempt to walk up the hill. My only choice is to find a reliable, rugged four wheel drive vehicle which will be able to negotiate the hill. In my research, I have found such cars/trucks available in the area for about $5,000. That is what I am hoping to raise.
I know these are hard times for everyone, and few of us have money to spare, but if you find you have the inclination to help me out with this, I will be forever grateful. Thanks for your attention and concern.
