We're Katie and Jewel Keca, sisters from Grimsby Ontario. We are riding our horses across Canada to raise money for Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. In the summer of 2017, Jewel and I rode from Mahone Bay Nova Scotia to Sault Saint-Marie Ontario. It took us 4 months to cross almost 4 provinces. This May 2019, we will be completing the second half of our journey. Riding from Kenora Ontario, to Vancouver British Colombia.
The first half of Kecing Canada was a beautiful adventure, and we met hundreds of kind Canadians who helped us along our journey. Together, we raised $7000 for LFC Guide Dogs. Our fundraising goal is $25,000. The cost to raise one Guide Dog, providing the dog to the family at no cost to them. Jewel is currently raising puppy number 4, and my first Guide Dog Foster pup just went to Dog Guide university last month! We are very passionate about this organization. We've witnessed first hand how the dogs give people their independence back, bring joy, and love to their families lives.
However this Go Fund me is NOT for LFC Guide Dogs. This Go Fund me is to help fund the costs of our cross Canada trek.
If you decide to donate, the funds will be used for; tack for our horses, camping supplies, equipment for our van, Jude, whom we will be sleeping in and transporting food for the horses, boots for our horses (we are shoeless) trailering costs to get the horses to Northern Ontario, promoting our website/facebook/youtube in order to reach as many people as possible to reach our fundraising goal. And if theres anything left over, gas and food!
Jude has already been converted into a livable home, money would be used for minor updates so we can carry as much food as possible for the horses.
Joseph, our older brother, is accompanying us and driving Jude. He is documenting the entire journey, and puts out weekly videos on youtube. Joseph is gathering enough footage to make a documentary of our journey across the country on horseback.
We have had other fundraisers specifically for Guide Dogs, where 100% of funds go to LFC Guide Dogs. We are hosting a send off fundraiser in which 50% of funds go to Guide Dogs, 50% to trip costs. Along the 4-5 month ride, all money we collect goes 100% to Guide Dogs unless otherwise specified by the donor.
As the three of us will not be employed for 5 months, any donations made here will help us cover the cost of our trip, and allow us to walk the next 3500km with our horses.
We are SO grateful to all the people that have already donated, and would like to donate. It literally makes our dream possible. All the love and support goes such a long way and helps us to reach our fundraising goal while we ride our horses across Canada.
