Mavericks Back Surgery

Most people know that we adopted 2 dachshund puppies 5 years ago. They are brothers from the same litter and are INSEPARABLE. We originally wanted only 1 dog, but seeing them so bonded together...we knew we couldn't separate them. They are the sweetest, most loving, cuddly pups in the world.  They are a huge part of our family and they bring us and the kids SO much joy.

About 3 weeks ago we noticed maverick was walking a bit stiff and was starting to have troubles getting up the back step from the backyard. After about 5 days it was starting to get a little worse, so I took him to the vet. The vet said that she noticed 3 inflamed spots on his spine and suspected IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) or a ruptured disc. She gave him some anti inflammatories and pain meds to start and we did that for about a week and a half. We saw a little improvement...but not much. So I called the vet and told them he is still struggling.  We made an appointment for xrays and she said we would probably have to see a neurologist.

Over the weekend while we were waiting for our Xray appointment (this last Saturday) Maverick  stopped using one of his back legs. He just drags it behind him. I got very emotional and took him to the emergency vet in sumner. They said that he had IVDD and needed an Neurologist ASAP.
I headed straight there and after spending the whole day at the Neurologist, they said that he needs emergency back surgery. They quoted 7-8k for the surgery and they needed the money up front to do anything for him.

The neurologist says that since Maverick is only 5, they can go in and remove the ruptured disc and he can make a full recovery and live a long healthy life.  We have been so emotional and not sure what to do. We don't have that kind of money just laying around (especially during all the circumstances going on).

We left the vet with a bunch of medication to keep Maverick comfortable for the time being and he has to be strickly kennel bound (to further avoid injury). If he becomes paralyzed,  we have 24 hours to do the surgery.  Otherwise he will be paralyzed permanently.

Seeing him in pain and discomfort breaks our heart and this is kind of a last resort option. I hate asking for help....especially money. This is pretty embarrassing and I never thought id have to make one of these. But doing nothing, and having to put him down would break my heart even more.
