Nicole D. Kearns is actually our sweet, feisty, and dear daughter-in-law
who technically joined our family on 11/11/11, but had already made her way
into our hearts well before the actual wedding. Here is her story.
A loving daughter and wife, mother of three, and grandmother of three, Nicole has long been a victim of kyphoscoliosis, dealing with it as best she could while still maintaining a happy, determined outlook. But the past several months have seen her spine bent into a severe S, with the lower part at a 64% curvature and the upper part at 52%. Already suffering from fibromyalgia, her pain has increased to the point of being intolerable, and the pressure from the bent spine has begun to break her ribs, one by one. Surgery is now more than a long-term dream; it is an absolute must.
No longer able to work at 46, Nicole is trying to get on disability and has worked hard to find free or affordable surgery for her worsening medical predicament. She has finally succeeded at finding and funding the right surgeon, and her operation is scheduled for January 6, 2014. But over the long-term post-op period she will be immobilized for six months, with a need for personal home care followed by extensive rehab. That is where we all come in.
We're not asking for a specific dollar amount for Nicole, but for people to give as they are able and willing. Your contribution, along with those of other individuals, may allow her to obtain the care she needs. Nothing could be more important to us this holiday season, and no gift beneath the tree will be more appreciated by our family than the knowledge that this care is feasible.
