Jamaica's Sunshine Girls Going For Gold

SMALL CHANGE, BIG DIFFERENCE – Show your love and support for Jamaica’s SUNSHINE GIRLS.

For over 50 years, thousands of Jamaican women and girls have improved their health and well-being through playing the sport of netball. For most, it’s a chance to exercise, socialize and escape the stresses and strains of everyday living, but for a determined and talented few, it is the chance of a lifetime. Scholarships are won and careers are launched as players earn the privilege to don the black, gold and green and represent Jamaica ‘to di werl’. And in true Jamaican style, the ordinary excels. Our National Netball Team, the Sunshine Girls, has won the bronze medal three times at the last eight Netball World Cup Championships. And as if that wasn’t enough, in 2022, at the other major Games/Championship, the Commonwealth Games, the team bettered the previous three bronze medals by winning the silver medal.

This July, the Sunshine Girls are determined to make Jamaica proud yet again, by bringing home GOLD from the 16th Netball World Cup Championship, in Cape Town, South Africa. The netballers are in training five days a week, determined to lift that Cup for the first time in our history. We know they have the resolve, skills and inimitable ‘Jamaican flair’ to be crowned ‘World Champions’. However, the cost of adequately preparing the 30-member squad so that they are physically, mentally and emotionally ready to compete at the highest level, is challenging. More than U$360K is needed to cover moderate training activities and competition expenses.
