Joe Burns Fund for Student Members of SCB

Joe Burns was a passionate conservation biologist and longstanding member of the Society for Conservation Biology. Joe held a B.S. in wildlife biology and would often mention that he felt a need to fully engage with SCB to stay abreast of relevant research. On top of doing great work in the federal government, becoming the National Program Lead for the Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive Species Program at the U.S. Forest Service, he felt that staying active with SCB was one of his biggest achievements and a way to maintain his professional credibility and scientific contacts.

In his honor and dedication to helping other conservation scientist thrive, the SCB is establishing the fund in his name. The fund will help a number of students obtain free SCB membership on a competitive basis.

100 percent of funds raised will go to support student memberships in SCB. We hope that the students who join the Society through support from this fund will find as much lifelong value and reward in SCB as Joe did.
