Six years ago, 27 year old Tyler Phillips was diagnosed with stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), the most aggressive type of brain cancer. After undergoing the first of two invasive brain surgerys, to remove the cancerous tumor in his frontal lobe, Tyler and his family were told he would have just six to fifteen months left to live. Upon hearing this news, Tyler politely  told his doctor “With all due respect, I am going to be here a lot longer than that.” We are happy to say, he was right.

Tyler continues to fight his battle of brain cancer and has been victorious but not without setbacks. As a consequence of his treatment, Tyler has had 3  grand mal seizures. Recently, Tyler has sought care in Milwaukee Wisconsin from an incredible medical team of 7 Doctors, at the Neuroscience Department at Aurora Health Care. Of the 7 Doctor’s overseeing Tyler’s treatment is the caring neurosurgeon, Dr. Rovin who Tyler had originally seen  6 years ago when this journey began. Dr. Rovin and his medical team are monitoring and treating a fluid filled cyst in Tyler’s brain that has slowly developed in the area between Tyler's cavity (where the tumor was), and his brain’s left ventricle. This is the area the tumor originated, and the fluid in the cyst is a breeding ground for glioblastoma cells. The good news is that at this point the GBM is slow growing, so we are in hopes that it can be stopped before it starts rapid growth. In July, Tyler started undergoing chemo for  5 days at a time, that he will repeat every 28 days. Tyler's MRI in mid September, showed "slight" improvement, showing that the cancer is not spreading.  In December, Tyler will travel to his doctors again, in Milwaukee,to reassess his treatment and to evaluate the cysts size. His attitude continues to be resilient and he has met each new set of challenges with grace and optimism. As his treatment picks up, so do his expenses.

As a community, we are coming together to support Tyler as he continues to  defy statistics. In the last 6 years, he has experienced profound difficulties yet he remains positive and continues to contribute joy to those around him. Tyler is an integral and  beloved community member of both Marquette and Harbor Springs, Michigan. He is a helper, his spirit is kind and generous, it is our time to give back to him. Your donations will help alleviate some of the financial worries for Tyler and his family. Eliminating any stress from Tyler’s life is a blessing as each of his grand mal seizures have occurred during times when he was both tired and stressed. Tyler and his family are carrying a heavy load, taking any weight off of their shoulders helps them in their fight in profound ways. Your kind contributions will go towards Tyler’s medical bills, the expenses incurred while traveling to his medical team, and toward his living expenses, to ensure Tyler’s safety is maintained during Covid. We are grateful for your support and contributions.

Thank you for your ongoing love, generosity, and prayers.
