Faten uses the funds to pay monthly rent, school fees, and medical care / physical therapy fees. She also buys food, water, and firewood for daily use. Maria had surgery on her foot last year due to hip dysplasia, caused by forced malnutrition. They often have to evacuate from their area, pay for travel, and pay to replace things. Due to all of these things and exorbitant costs, she has no money saved to eventually travel out of Ga za. Faten does want to leave when they are allowed. Maria's foot and hip will not heal properly until she is eating properly and getting the nutrients her little body needs. It seems she will not get this anytime soon while in Ga za.
