Each year the United States Cycling Federation selects a handful of dedicated, young riders to represent our country in the World Cup cyclo-cross races in Europe in December and January. RACE CF is proud to announce that Peter Goguen and Austin Vincent have earned the top two junior invitations to compete on the US national team this winter. Not only is participation in the World Cup series the stepping stone to being selected for the US team for the World Championships in February, but it is also an opportunity for them to promote the core mission of RACE CF: raising awareness of the life-changing health benefits that vigorous aerobic exercise can provide to those with Cystic Fibrosis.
Being selected for this honor is the first step, however raising the necessary funds for Peter and Austin to attend is where the real challenge lies. The total cost of travel and participation will be more than $15,000 each. Would you join us in making this dream a reality? Every donation, no matter how large or small will go directly toward the boys' trip and the mission of RACE CF. Belgium! Some call it "The Land of Chocolate and Waffles", but I call it "The land where muddy cyclists' dreams are made". Ever since I started racing almost 10 years ago, I've wanted to race in Europe. Last winter I was able to experience just that as I headed over with my older brother Manny; however, I quickly realized that I may have been in over my head. I found myself racing in extreme weather conditions, on intensely challenging courses, and against very tough competition; truly an eye-opening experience. When I returned from the trip, I dealt with feelings of defeat. As I wrestled with these thoughts, leading up to the US national championships, I became even more aware of what Manny and Tom, my older brothers, fight through every day on the bike with Cystic Fibrosis. Their dedication day in and day out, which I had become so used to, suddenly hit me in a different way. Instead of just sharing their inspiration with others, I became the one being inspired. The next weekend, in Madison, WI, I won the bronze medal in the worst conditions I've ever experienced at a national championship event. Since then I have been eagerly awaiting the chance to go back to Europe as an even better racer, and hopefully compete in a World Cup event for the first time. To receive this selection is definitely a dream come true.

I recently found out that I've been selected to attend EuroCross Camp. At this highly respected camp I will be racing for the USA at two World Cups (Namur and Zolder) and several other prestigious races. Also, Peter and I will be the only juniors from the US competing at the Rome World Cup. I'm beyond ecstatic to be heading to Europe; it has been a goal of mine for several years now. I have trained diligently and am ready and honored to have this awesome experience offered to me. This is a very rare and incredible opportunity for me as I will get to race with the best cyclists in the world while proudly representing our country.
