Help Glenn Low Kick Cancer’s ASS!

Donation protected
Glenn Low has a rare, malignant brain cancer called Glioblastoma, which has been rated by the final pathology report as grade 4. It is considered an inoperable, incurable, aggressive cancer that originates in the brain.  Although there is no known cure, Glenn’s Kaiser neuro-surgeon and neuro-oncologist are planning an aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatment plan, which will likely involve daily sessions of therapy in Los Angeles.  Although there are other facilities closer to his home that treat many forms of cancer, because of the rare nature of Glioblastoma, treatment involves highly specialist methods only available in Los Angeles.  Because Glenn will require daily trips to the hospital, and because he is no longer allowed to drive a vehicle, his wife, Teri Low, will also need to accompany him every day.  The financial hardship of Teri taking off work, and the cost of food, travel, and possible accommodations for the next several months, will eventually take a huge toll on their family.

Glenn and Teri’s sons are both in the U.S. military (U. S. Air Force stationed in Aviano, Italy and U.S. Navy stationed in Jacksonville, North Carolina) and were granted leave to be with their ill father.  However, the expenses involved in traveling back home to support their father, created an unexpected financial burden for them.  The Low’s daughter is currently enrolled in the nursing program at Azusa Pacific University and works at two jobs to help make ends meet to afford college.  However, during Glenn’s 9 days in the hospital, she was at his bedside daily and missed both school and work to support her parents.

Glenn has worked in public education for over 20 years.  After working in the Barstow Unified School District for two years as a substitute teacher and independent studies teacher, he began a nine-year career at Silver Valley Unified School District (SVUSD).  In his first year at SVUSD, he was their high school’s counselor, while also attending school full-time to become a school psychologist.  The next year he started at SVUSD as a school psychologist, and he remained with the district in that capacity for the next eight years.  From SVUSD, Glenn was then hired at the Desert Mountain Special Education Local Plan Area (D/M SELPA), which is a division of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, as their School Psychologist, where he has maintained that position for over 12 years.  The D/M SELPA is now called the California Association of Health and Education Linked Professions (CAHELP) and Glenn’s role also includes the title of Nonpublic School Coordinator and Residential Case Manager.  Glenn provides supports and services to students, parents, and educators for all the school districts between Cajon Pass and the Arizona and Nevada state lines.  In addition, he also provides supports for multiple charter schools within those same boundaries, but also to some as far south as San Diego and as far North as Pasadena.  One of his primary duties is that of residential case manager for students with the most significant mental health, behavioral, and educational needs who have been placed in residential facilities/nonpublic schools, both in California and in other states.  Annually, Glenn visits each of those facilities (spending time with the students, the student’s teacher and therapist, and communicating with other staff) to ensure that appropriate progress is being made toward the goal of reunification with family and a return to a lower level of school placement.  It was actually during one of his residential case management visits to Salt Lake City, UT on March 28, 2018, when he experienced his first symptoms associated with the Glioblastoma, which was a severe seizure that landed him in an emergency room.

Glenn has chosen to live in the town where he was born and raised – Barstow, CA.  Within his community, he has been involved in many service projects over the years. He is an active member of the Barstow Free Methodist Church (BFMC), where he and his wife ran the youth ministry program for over three years, providing mentorship, leadership, and service projects for many youth in the community.  He is on the CEST Team (Christian Education Support Team) for one of Barstow’s few private schools, Barstow Christian School (BCS).  As a CEST Team member, Glenn has served as the MC and auctioneer, for many years, for BCS’s biggest fundraiser involving dinner, hundreds of silent auction of items, and multiple live auction items.  For nearly 10 years, Glenn has participated in BFMC’s annual week-long mission trip to the Navajo Nation, where the team builds and maintains Native American facilities; last year the team made functional a restroom facility to allow for indoor sinks, showering, and toileting, on a church property where only outhouses had ever been used.  During those trips, the team also goes into impoverished communities to hand out food baskets and to provide fellowship and prayers to all in need.

Glenn has always had a heart for children and his family, and he has proven that he can take on any challenge that is brought his way.  Please help him and his family so that he can beat Glioblastoma and get back to the work he loves – service above self!
