Dear Friends and Family,
I am Andrea White. I am a runner, a special education teacher, a mom, a sister, and a daughter. On November 17, 2013 my family's life was forever changed when a tornado hit my hometown of Washington, IL. Due to poor cell reception, I couldn't get a hold of my family, and feared the worst. When I arrived home I saw a message from my mother. They had survived a harrowing close encounter with a F4 tornado. My family home was ground zero for the F-4 tornado in Washington IL. My parents lost everything. They survived in the basement with minor bruises but our home was destroyed. Some of our belongings were found as far north as Joliet IL.! Our home is gone and all our belongings.
They were all safe and staying at a cousin's home nearby. My parents and brother were okay, but their house was gone. All that was left was a bit of the first floor and the basement stairs. Once I saw the devastation I was just thankful they were alive and well. We were able to salvage a few things, a few photos, and some personal mementos but the scope of the loss is difficult to describe. Some of our belongings were found as far north as Joliet IL.! These items have been sent back to us and I have been able to retrieve others that they didn't post online for us to find.
This fund is to help them get simple household items such as beds, linens and other household items that will be needed in the coming weeks. Since they are in temporary housing, gift cards and money are most appropriate as they sort through the next phase of this disaster. I appreciate all that you can donate at this time to help support my parents!
Although they have no home or belongings they have their lives. I appreciate everyone's help and support in our time of need. My parents are vigilant dealing with the details of this catastrophe, they are so brave. I am hoping to help my parents by appealing to you to help them and our family out.
