Bring Lilly Home

Donation protected
My little Lilly Girl is currently in the ICU at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital.

This past Sunday, August 12, we woke up and there were puddles of blood in the sheets. It wasn’t apparent where it had come from and she seemed fine otherwise but when we went for our morning walk I noticed she was straining while peeing and there was blood in her urine. She still chased squirrels and she wanted her breakfast but once she ate I had to take her to the hospital to see why she was bleeding. After an examination, an overnight stay, and lots of tests to rule out cancer and ticks among other things it was determined that she has ITP.

ITP is an autoimmune disease where her body attacks and destroys platelets keeping her blood from being able to clot. The good news is that 70% of dogs diagnosed with ITP get to go back home with their families but the bad news is that it takes anywhere from 3 to 7+ days for the steroids to start working and the platelet count to get back to a safe level.

Lilly is fighting and staying strong. Yesterday she was walking around, wagging her tail, and giving kisses but today when I saw her she was getting a blood transfusion and had to stay in her crate.

She still has a good chance at getting through this and coming back home but it’s a long process. I’m prepared to do what’s necessary to give her every chance to make it out of there but the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital ICU is an expensive place to stay. Any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated and will help alleviate the debt that I’m building to make her better. If you’re unable to donate I ask that you keep her in your thoughts.
