Ride Cambodia 2014

Donation protected

I am proud to announce that our Parent Company (ComputerShare, based out of Australia) has chosen me as one of 30 people who will be representing them in an amazing Charity Event.  "Ride Cambodia" was created to bring awareness and funds to orphaned children infected with HIV in Cambodia.  Each of us is responsible to raise at least $5,000 which will go directly to the Sunrise Villages.  These children live there full time and gain everything they need in this location, including the proper medical attention; education, nutrition, and socialization that they need to live a decent quality of life.  With all of us raising money, and ComputerShares corporate donations, we will raise $175,000.00 to help ensure these children have a fighting chance.

I will be traveling to Cambodia in June to personally deliver the funds we raise.  I will get to spend some time with the children that this money is going to benefit and cannot wait to see the joy on their faces when they come to realize that so many people have pulled together and helped them during a time when so many others have turned their backs.  While I'm there, I will be riding a mountain bike almost 300 miles across the Cambodia countryside to visit 3 children's villages.  I have been training and riding about 150 miles a week in preparation for this journey.

During the past couple of months, and all the way up to my departure time, I am on a quest to raise $5,000 for these kids.  Many people have already helped, and it's my hope that many more will decide to take part.  This journey has taken a lot of time away from my family to train, raise money, and travel to Cambodia.  They are sacrificing a lot to have me take part in this opportunity and I am grateful.  If anyone would like to learn more about how you can help, or donate, please let me know.  For more specific information about Sunrise Villages and their history, please read more below.  Thank you for your support.

The Sunrise Children's Villages (SCV) are located in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, Cambodia. SCV started in September 1993, following the first visit by Geraldine Cox. Since that time, three centres have been created. The Sunrise Children's Villages provide education, medical care, and a home for orphaned, abandoned, vulnerable and disadvantaged Cambodian children.

Our third and latest Sunrise Children's Village was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Computershare, Australia, through its worldwide Change a Life, staff giving program. This unique centre provides a home, medical care and education to more than 200 HIV affected children .

Sunrise Children's Villages has a robust reintegration policy in place, and where possible through support and close monitoring, creates environments where children under our residential care can be safely reintegrated back into a natural family home.

Through donations and child sponsorship, your support of Sunrise Children's Villages is a gift that continues to give life, hope, education, health and a future to those who would otherwise have no hope of realising their full potential.
