Celyne's Brain Tumor Fund

Donation protected
Dear family and friends,

We are heartbroken to say that our mother Celyne passed away on Saturday June 17th 2017. We are very grateful for all of the support we have received. The donations are going to pay for the costs associated with tying up her estate. Apologies for the late update, some people donated without knowing that she had passed. If there's anyone who donated and wants their money back, please let us know.

We will update everyone once we have a remembrance date planned.

Love,
Max and Luca

-------------------------------------------

Our mom Celyne has been recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

Last summer, she began having issues with extreme lethargy, loss of concentration, and forgetfulness. Anyone who knows her will agree that this is very uncharacteristic of her. After many visits with doctors and stays in the emergency room in Mexico, she was eventually diagnosed with kidney stones. She flew up to the U.S. with the intention of getting kidney stone surgery, however it would soon be revealed not to be the main source of her health issues.

When she arrived in San Diego, we noticed that her left side of her body was weaker, it looked as though she’d had a stroke and so we took her to the emergency room. After array of blood tests, CT, MRI, and PET scans, doctors found a mass in the right side of her brain. Biopsy results showed that she has a grade 3 “Anaplastic Astrocytoma”, a rare malignant brain tumor. The doctors described its size as “two oranges side by side”.

The good news is the cancer is a primary tumor and has not spread to other parts of her body.

She is currently in San Diego living with family where therapists are helping her recover from her biopsy, specifically addressing her left sided weakness. They are helping her re-learn to walk, keep her balance, and perform different daily activities. While in acute rehab she had severe kidney pains and was rushed into emergency surgery. She still has a prominent kidney stone that will not be treated until after her first round of cancer treatment.

Starting early May, she will begin a seven week regimen of daily radiation visits and oral chemotherapy. The goal is to shrink the tumor and prevent it from spreading. We are hoping for her to regain her mobility, function, and independence as well as her energetic and charismatic personality!

Because of her diagnosis she is unable to work, hindering her ability to pay rent, medical bills, living expenses, etc.

Apart from the setbacks, our mom continues to be a fighter with a great outlook on life. We’re hoping to meet with the best doctors in the country and get her into some cutting-edge clinical trials.

Our goal with this fundraiser is to help relieve a bit of her stress, so she can focus on her recovery.

We are so thankful to everyone who has been there for her!
