Brinley Carothers Medical Fund
Lea and Mark are both valued team members and Ma's here at Children's. They both are dedicated to provide the best care for the patients they see. Outside of working at Children's Hospital, they are parents of 4 children. They stay very busy with basketball, soccer, gymnastics and spending time with their family. October of 2017 little Brinley Carothers joined the family. Brinley was born a few weeks early due to Lea having high blood pressure. When Brinley was born she had a nuchal cord so tight that she was not breathing and had to be worked on for several minutes. After that scare Brinley stopped breathing in her room and was sent to the NICU. In the NICU she underwent an echo for a murmur, blood work and was on oxygen. As we all know having a baby with no complications costs a lot. So Lea and Mark have been doing all they can to pay off these bills. After her hospital stay she had a follow up at our Children's facility and was cleared of the heart murmur.
When Lea and Mark both came back to work Brinley had to attend daycare. Brinley was hospitalized on March 20, 2018 with RSV. She has spent 4 days in the PICU and then has been on the pediatric floor at Memorial Central. Working and having a baby in the hospital, and three kids at home is very stressful. Mark has been working as much as possible, however, Lea has been out of work for a week now. Since having surgery on the end of her maternity leave Lea has no PTO left to use to be paid for this time missed from work. As you all know even if your not working the bills don't stop which also brings on a lot of stress as they are at the hospital day in and day out with Brinley.
Many have asked how they can help. The cards, gifts, texts and calls have not gone unnoticed by Lea and Mark and they appreciate all the love and support from our staff, friends and family. We decided to set this up for them to try and help with copays, deductibles and any bills they need help with through this hard time. Lets show them the love and support we have for them as co-workers, friends and family during this difficult time. Anything will help and I know that they will appreciate it.
