Huricane Irma & Maria Saved My Life

My name is Elizabeth Joy Gowan . I have 2 brilliant sons Chaysen Skye( 7)and Pierce Sun (11) and our puppy Isley (1). We survived Hurricane Irma. After the devastation of our Beloved Island we fled to St. Croix by boat to be with my Heroic Sister her Incredible husband and their amazing children . We were loved and Supported like lost treasure . Relieved that Hurricane José Had passed by we began to prepare for Hurricane Maria . With limited supply’s and a lot of bravery we weathered the storm . St. Croix was hit hard . The month that followed was filled with compassion , strength, and love from my forever family of Virgin Islanders.
We decided to take a cruise to Florida provided by Royal Caribbean ,it was not an easy choice to make for me . My son Pierce decided to go to St. John with his Father . With a Broken heart we went out to sea heading to Florida arriving at our destination Minnesota on Oct.17. Our family and friends welcomed us with an abundance of love .Offering their homes, providing winter clothes ,Yoga classes, toys, and so much kindness. I soon found a job,Chaysen started school and life began to take shape again .
The father of my children filed for full custody of my sons around this time . We began a custody dispute. I turned 40 and went for a routine physical . The Dr. recommended a mammogram and they offered Free Parking so ... why not ? I was soon diagnosed with Stage2 invasive ductal carcinoma. I’m currently being treated. I am incredibly grateful that Hurricane Irma began my journey to the states . I am in the best place for me to beat this. I am so Happy for the love and support We are surrounded by every day . I’ve started the Go Fund Me because I’m hoping to see my son before I have surgery, Cover legal costs , Have time off for recovery.As well as relocate to Minnesota . Thank you !
