Libby's Cancer Treatment

In 2018 Libby had her daughter Violet. This was the best day of her life. A mere 7 months later a surprise breast cancer diagnosis was the worst day of her life.  Libby was given a stage 3a breast cancer diagnosis and pursued all the early stage treatment, included 8 rounds of harsh chemotherapy, a single mastectomy and radiation. 

Unfortunately, at a follow-up less than 6 months later metastatic disease was found in her bones. Stage 4 breast cancer is terminal, with an average survival of 36 months. Libby was put on the a cdk 4/6 inhibitor drug and hormone blocker. She was also given radiation. 

Libby's disease does not seem to have responded to either hormone treatment or the newest line of treatment CDK 4/6 inhibitors. Recent scans showed probable progression in several additional bones. Very few lines of treatment exist after this and Libby's doctor has estimated she has about 2 years left to live. 

Our first fundraiser allowed libby to have some genomic testing. Unfortunately no targetable mutations were found. Now the only treatment options remaining are chemotherapy. These treatments will inevitably stop working after some time. The only remaining hope of long term survival is clinical trials. We are currently searching for possible clinical trials and looking into costs. Most clinical trials are in the states and costs are often up to $250,000 usd, which doesn't include additional costs such as travel. As this is a large sum of money we hope to begin fundraising now so money will be available when a trial becomes available.

Libby needs more hope. Libby's daughter needs more hope.

All funds not used for Libby's treatment (for e xample if Libby dies prior to getting into a clinical trial) will be donated towards metastatic breast cancer research.
