Jonie’s Cancer Care And Treatment

On July 17, 2017 Jonie was diagnosed with advanced stage 4 small-cell lung cancer with a baseball sized tumor in her left lung and multiple metastases in her brain. She received five rounds of chemotherapy as well as full radiation therapy to her head and chest, all in an effort to slow or stop the cancer’s progress. In February, 2018 new imaging indicated the cancer was not slowed but was still growing. The tumor in her lung was larger and the brain mets were still growing, including a new met. Undaunted, we headed to MD Anderson in Houston to meet with the experts. We found a doctor that specializes in small-cell lung cancer and has started her on a new chemo treatment. The care and treatment with the new medical team will all be handled in Houston, where we will have to visit once a month. The cost of our new treatment will be approximately $1400/month including travel for the foreseeable future. We don’t know how long this treatment will last but we will keep it up until Jonie says “enough is enough”. This also means we don’t know how long these extra costs will keep hitting our budget.
