On March 17th my brother was climbing a tree with his girlfriend Crystals, nephew when a branch broke and he fell to the ground landing on his back. He broke two vertebrae in his back, broke his ribs and had a complete spinal cord injury. Meaning he will be confined to a wheelchair the rest of his life. This is still very raw and new to our family, however we are trying to get him back to as normal life as possible once he gets out of the hospital. He had surgery Sunday night to fix his broken back and to align the spinal cord. He will be in ICU for the next few days, then move to another floor for a while, then finally transferred to a rehab facility in which they will teach him how to live this new life. Some of the things the social worker has told us to start thinking about, is a vehicle that he is able to drive himself to give him a sense of independence, handicap accessible bathroom, house, etc. From the bottom of our hearts any amount is very much appreciated.
