Trip to Washington D.C.!

My name is Sam O'Brien, and I am a social studies teacher at Rainshadow Community Charter High School in Reno, NV. We are a community-based high school whose mission is to re-engage students in the educational process through hands-on learning, art, and community building. This school year, I am planning on taking a small group of government students to Washington, D.C. for a five day educational tour of historical sites, museums, battlefields, and several of our Founding Fathers' homes and estates. Our trip is planned and conducted by a reputable tour company (WorldStrides), and we will be paired with high school students from other states.
I feel it will be an amazing opportunity for our students to experience Washington, D.C.'s history, see our branches of government in action, meet peers from other states, but most importantly, experience a trip they will never forget. The cost for each student is over $2000, and although students and their families are asked to pay the majority of this themselves,we are trying to raise money to help defray some of these costs.

The photographs below are taken of my students on field trips to learn about the local history and geography of Nevada. I feel like they have been educational, and eye opening for my students, some of whom have never been out of the Truckee Meadows to even visit Lake Tahoe. What I am planning this year is even more ambitious than earlier trips to the Lake, or the San Francisco Federal Reserve, or Donner Summit, but no less important.
