Golsa’s Journey To Recovery

Hi, my name is Golsa. About four months ago, I started having some minor gastrointestinal problems. At first, it started with just diarrhea. It then turned into bloody diarrhea accompanied with a lot of pain. When I first sought treatment from the doctors, they tried to treat me with different antibiotics. Unfortunately, none of those medications worked. During this time, I lost a lot of blood and nutrients that my body needs to stay healthy. Because of this, I have been hospitalized three times and have had three colonoscopies done. The most recent colonoscopy showed that I have a severe case of Ulcerative Colitis (UC). This is a chronic disease in which the large intestine becomes extremely inflamed and sores begin to develop. The GI doctors do not yet have a complete understanding of the cause of UC; therefore, all possible treatments are tests and trials. As of right now, I am on high doses of steroids to decrease the inflammation while we try to find a better treatment. The only possible treatment for UC is a procedure called fecal transplant and it can be done only at Bahamas and UK. Each treatment is ten days long and the insurance does not cover any of the costs there. The result of the first treatment will determine how many more treatments I will need in the future. Any help would be much appreciated.
