Help Us Save Adams Life.

I’m Misty, and my family became complete when our son Adam Z Keyt-George join it. One day this sweet boy moved in across the street from us he had just turned 8 years old. He came to the door asking if we had kids and if he could come in and play, from that moment on he was a part of the family. A little bit about Adam loves animals, the out doors, anything to do with cars, and once he cares for you he’ll do anything he can to help. He will also go out of his way to help strangers. I have literally watched him run halfway across the parking lot to open the door for an older lady he had never met before. He played baseball and football until it became to risky for his health and his doctor advised him to stop. We quickly learned that while he was a kind smiley sweet kid he had already been through so much and would continue to struggle possibly for the rest of his life. He was being raised by a single father that was very sick and Adam had the same horrible disease. Often times Adam would disappear for weeks on end as he’d be in the hospital for acute pancreatitis which he had inherited. While his biological father Dale did everything he could to take great care of Adam his own health was failing rapidly. We had a heart to heart with Dale explaining that if the need ever arose we would love to be there for Adam. It wasn’t long before Adam was taking care of his father, not that he minded one bit. Adams like that. He loves deeply and wholly. Soon the time came and after another knock on the door this time from a state worker Adam moved in. Not long after that Dale passed away. I think he had been holding on until he knew Adam would be cared for. Adams attacks would come and go. He would be in the hospital not allowed to eat or drink and living on IV fluids and pain and anti nausea medication. He would discharge home and it was like he had never been sick. Then around the time he was 14 he had a really bad attack and after he came home he was still in pain and nauseous all the time. Adam still managed to play sports through the 1st few years of high school and he graduated on time however the pain and nausea had become constant by this point. His pancreatitis had became chronic and has stolen so much of his life and dreams. Yet he continues to smile and love and now that we have learned of a curative surgery he’s starting to dream again. He went through some rough depression for a while but this news has truly helped. Now why were asking for help. Here we are about 7 weeks away from a major surgery that will save his life. Allow him to say goodbye to pain medication and start working towards his dreams again. He has already missed out on so much. Food brings him pain and more nausea as a result, all of the times people get together for the holidays or a BBQ or birthday party he just stays home. Food had been the enemy for too long. His weight has fallen off these last few years. This last winter he was down to 117 pounds at 5’9 that scary. He’s managed to get it up to a healthy 130 pounds in effort to stay healthy for the surgery. The surgery requires him and I to be in Minnesota for 8 weeks. He will be at the University if Minnesota medical center for the first 2 weeks then lots of close follow up until we come home. They are removing his pancreas along with a few other nuisance organs, then they will transplant his own Insulin making cells into his liver. He will likely still be diabetic due to how damaged his pancreas already is but that’s controllable. So for 8 weeks not only will I be out of work we’ll need to cover the costs of being out of state, there’s also going to be a lot of expenses that insurance won’t cover like dressing change stuff, tube feeding equipment ect. We made it to Minnesota. We are in the middle of an appointment marathon. That being said we are just a few days away from Adams life saving surgery. Monday the 21st is the big day. Please continue to share this post and keep Adam in you thoughts and prayers.

Update 5/22/18

First day after surgery:
It was a very long rough surgery and a tough 1st night. Please continue to pray for Adam, for comfort, strength, peace, recovery, and by some miracle that his islet cells will take hold and work to fully cover his insulin needs. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
