Keep The Hernandez Family Together

Erin Andrzejczyk and Ricardo Hernandez met in 2010 in the Seattle area. Erin was at a low point in her young life, recovering from injuries she suffered in a horrific car accident the summer before. A high schooler at the time, she also worked at a local McDonalds restaurant to save money for college. That’s where she met and fell in love with Ricardo. He saved her life, she says, by loving her and challenging her to work hard to make a better life for herself. They moved back to her home state of Michigan in 2012 and were married in 2013. They have worked, gone to school, started their own dog breeding business and spent time helping others in the community. Ricardo has been pursuing the very complex citizenship process for years, as their funds would allow. Erin and Ricardo are expecting their first child in April 2018. On March 13, he was apprehended by ICE and is being held in detention until a hearing - the reason being that he had started the process and was unable to finish it. He has committed no crime other than entering the US without a visa. He has never relied on the welfare system. He is loving, hard working, an asset to his community and will make a wonderful father. He is also the sole financial support for Erin and their baby since she is on unpaid maternity leave, but right now, he cannot work. They’ve already spent thousands on legal fees in the citizenship process. Erin and Ricardo would never ask for help; they are usually the ones helping and giving. But the reality is that without support, Erin will have to leave her home and sell possessions to stay afloat until she can go back to work in the summer. Donations would help support Erin and the baby until the Hernandez family can be reunited. This isn’t a political issue. This is a humanitarian issue. We are all our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.
