My name is Asha Yakuti, and I am asking for your help to support a foundation project for vulnerable groups in Africa. I have many personal reasons for initiating this project. I arrived in the United States on October, 2007. With in three weeks of my arrival, I was diagnosed with pneumonia, thyroid, and TB I was admitted to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, Washington. I was terribly sick with severe medical condition in the days and months that followed. I went through CPR procedures and was revised from to heart attacks. My doctors succeeded in saving my life. Having got the best treatment, I was then discharged. But my host drove me out of her house.
There I was in a very difficult time again. I applied for shelter because I was still sick and needed regular medical attention. While at the Salvation Army homeless shelters for women, I began to develop my skills, I obtained job training, and waited for answers to my application to work at Seattle Goodwill Store . My heartfelt thanks goes to Goodwill for building me up and helping me strengthen my job skills over that terrible period. I was ready to fight for a new livelihood in the United states. My immigration papers were accepted and I am now a full US citizen. I was allowed to bring my children not long after being employed by Goodwill, but suddenly I lost the father of my children who could have been saved with good medical attention.
I now work at Hopelink as a bus driver, an opportunity rarely available for women in Africa. In 2015, I started the Asha Foundation to support and provide basic needs such as food items, second-hand shoes and clothing, and medication to orphanage, people with albinism, and other vulnerable or disabled groups in Africa. I am currently helping a more than 500 children in various parts of Tanzania and cover places such as Bagamoyo, Kigamboni, and Mwandege in Dar esSalaam, and Tumbatu in Zanzibar. In partnership with the Zanzibar AIDS Association and Support of Orphans (Zaso)which has 1200 children.
The Asha Foundation also supports families, orphans, and children with HIV-Aids who are usually neglected in the society. I currently provide the basic items to these groups such , school supply's, shoes, clothes , hygiene supplies, and special creams for people with albinism. I am asking for your help to continue this goal and sustain this empowered project. Your donations of any size will go directly to the children of my country, as well as helping me pay for the shipping of various supplies/donated goods to the isolated villages and towns of Tanzania.
