Stanwood Together For Puerto Rico

Donation protected
In early March of 2018, thousands of people in northern Westchester County lost power due to two consecutive wind and snow storms. Our power provider ConEd proceeded to drag its feet, spread misinformation, and outright lie to us about their repair efforts . All told, the Stanwood Neighborhood was without power and internet access for seven days with no reliable information about its impending restoration. And while seven days may sound like a long time, once our power was restored, our neighborhood collectively agreed that seven days is nothing compared to the time that many in Puerto Rico have been without power.

Likewise, ConEd’s treatment of its Westchester customers  is nothing compared to the current Administration’s lackadaisical response to plight of our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico. While our government’s response was to throw “beautiful, soft ” rolls of paper towels at Puerto Ricans, current reports state that power won’t be fully resorted to the island until May  – a full eight months after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

This is unacceptable, and now that our neighborhood has experienced a mere taste of corporate disinterest, we are going to do our best to help out our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico.

Funds collected by this initiative will go to Adrián Viajero Romá, cofounder of the Defend Puerto Rico Hurricane Fund  , which is committed to providing support to low income communities and communities of color. Most likely these disenfranchised communities that have been severely affected will be overlooked by relief and rebuilding efforts and will face a slower recovery than other parts of the island. To ensure the money raised by this campaign reach those who most need it, Defend Puerto Rico has partnered with local community-based organizations in Puerto Rico,  Taller Salud, COPI (La Corporación Piñones Se Integra), and Nuestra Escuela. 100% of your donations go to supporting the purchase of food, medicine, construction and clean up supplies, power generators, and other things needed for the recovery and rebuilding of our beloved island.
