Hi I'm Katie Walters!
The past two years I have gone back to my favorite children's home in Swaziland to bring school supplies, clothes, and shoes to all of the children living there. These children survive off of very little compared to what we have here. This particular children's home is at the top of a mountain and secluded from the rest Swaziland.
In the past, I have raised enough money to rent buses and take the children on a field trip to ride horses, swim in a swimming pool, visit the national museum and factories, and eat at a restaurant. It was a first for everyone. The joy that came from this experience was overwhelming and I'm on my way to do it again!
There is also a large humanitarian piece to this trip as well. I have a goal is to purchase at least 2 months of food and supplies for 25 families outside of the orphanage. My effort is to help families through this difficult time when food is scarce. Swaziland is just coming out of one of the worst droughts on record. Not only are livestock dying, but people in rural areas were unable to plant their crops this year. This is a big deal as the majority of the country lives off of subsistence farming.
