Cleveland Police Officer Justin Edwards is expected to recover from injuries he received Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, in a two-vehicle accident on FM 787.Edwards, who has been with the department for more than two years, was on his way to work in a marked patrol unit when the accident occurred.
"We received the call around 6:16 a.m.," said Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard.
According to preliminary information, it appears that Edwards' patrol car struck the rear end of a single bed dump truck that was headed into Cleveland.
The dump truck reportedly had just left Smith Paving Supply on FM 787 and was moving at a slow pace when it was hit by the officer.
Edwards was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment. The dump truck driver, Jamie Johnson, 43, of Cleveland, was not seriously injured.
Edwards is expected to undergo surgery Tuesday afternoon and is facing a lengthy recovery time, said Broussard.
"He is a very blessed guy," said Broussard.
The patrol car is said to be a total loss.
The accident is being investigated by Trooper Chris Richmond with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Justin and his wife Stephanie just has a baby girl at the end of August. Justin is going to have a long road ahead of him with multiple surgeries. He has a broken pelvis and a broken hip. Any donations will be appreciated. God bless you.
