Wheelchair Accessible Car Needed!

Donation protected

My daughter Sam has recently been in the hospital with unexplained loss of movement in her legs and is confined to a wheelchair.  We have insurance, and her step dad and I have been working two and three jobs to make sure she has everything we need, but there is one thing that is outside of our reach...we need a vehicle she can get in and out of.

I'm not asking for the amount of a car, though if we can get that it would be amazing!  I just need help with the upfront cost of the vehicle.  We can afford a small payment and the increase in insurance, but between having moved weeks before she fell ill, missed work with her in the hospital and lost income from her being unable to work, a down payment is going to take us months to save.  And until that time, we have no way to get her beyond the bounds of our neighborhood on our own.

She is 19 years old, and like any teenager, she can't stand being cooped up in our small home 24 hours a day and only getting out for doctors appointments where medical transport is provided.  She has been a trooper  about all of this for the now 6 weeks she has been without use of her legs.  But last week, I realized that as much as she is putting on a strong face, it is starting to get to her...especially being stuck in the house.

I want to be able to take her to the park or the mall or just out with me to the grocery store.  I want her to keep her spirits and hopes up and not start dwelling on thoughts of being a burden or being stuck for the rest of her life.  And a large part of that is having the opportunity to get out of the house.

We don't yet know what is causing the problem, but she is under the care of the nuerology clinic at University Medical Center, and we are all hopeful that this is something that through treatment and hard work can be reversed.

It is hard for me to ask for help.  I want to be able to do it all on our own, but I've run out of hours in the day to work.  And while my wonderful friends and family have been tremendously supportive and generous with both their time and their vehicles, I can't expect nor ask for that forever.

Your donations will go to getting us a reliable sedan that Sam can get into and out of and has a trunk big enough to house her wheelchair.  We are hoping to get something around the 2013 year model range, but to be honest, if it fits the requirements and it runs, we aren't picky.  Every little bit helps and will take time off of her having limited opportunity to leave the house and having to rely on medical transport for doctors appointments.  We will raise the money eventually, but you guys can make that wait a lot shorter for her.
