Imagine the power of a tornado:. now think of the devastation a tsunami can bring:.. now combine those two together!
That's pretty much what happened to the central part of the Philippines! Entire islands are said to be missing while others were flattened completely! Buildings were pushed down, houses were swept away and century old trees were uprooted like they were nothing. Lands were demolished with nothing spared in the way of Super Typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda, said to be the STRONGEST storm ever recorded. Super typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda was reported to have record breaking wind gusts reaching up to 380kph!
Families, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends and relatives were torn apart! One of the islands hit is estimating a death toll of over 10,000 people! What's worse is now the power and communication lines for the survivors are severely limited, at best. Plus, there is an intensive shortage of food, drinking water, clean clothing, a place to sleep and other basic necessities.
Support is pouring in...and that's GREAT...but it will naturally be focused on the most densely populated and larger cities.
Our maid (Jessica) is from a town called Capiz and it too was completely demolished. I don't know what it will take to help rebuild them, but we can try. Adopting just one area, a more remote area and working directly with them to help them rebuild.
That's the objective. One person. One family. One community. Helping them get back up. Assisting them in rebuilding their lives.
My commitment is to personally provide a 10% match to all donations made (up to P250,000).
If we raise enough money to effectively help her village and have more left over...well then, we'll start with the next village and then the next one.
