What is it? I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3, which is the most common type of breast cancer (about 80%). Grade 3 means that my cancer is more aggressive. It’s also HER2+, which is a good thing because there are specific chemotherapy treatments that can target my cancer directly. When did this all happen? 2/14: I was diagnosed... 2/15: I had a biopsy to identify the cancer 2/16: I had an MRI to see the masses better and check my other breast (no right side involvement) 2/19: I met my oncologist (Dr. Bomgaars) 2/20: I had an echocardiogram to make sure that my heart was healthy enough for chemotherapy 2/21: I spoke to my surgeon (Dr. Liu) 2/23: I cut my hair short, so it’s not so much of a shock when it falls out What is next? Monday: PET scan (to stage the cancer and make sure it hasn’t spread anywhere else) Tuesday: 1st chemotherapy treatment Friday: Port placement How am I? I’m a mix of emotions right now, part of me just wants to start so we’re one day closer to being done and part of me isn’t ready to stop breastfeeding. Taking that away from MJ and having Emma see me without hair are the two saddest things for me. I’m not scared to do all of this, because I have to do it. I don’t have a choice to be scared right now.
