Pam is a long time, well known Eagle County resident. She has has worked at Colorado News Media/Eagle Valley Enterprise for 18 years, been on the Gypsum Town Counsel for well over 30 years and has lived in the Valley with her children and grandchildren for most of her life. Her roots run deep here.
On February 22nd, 2018, what started as a lump and unbearable pain in the shoulder turned out to be a diagnosis that we all dread - cancer. Biopsy's and other testing was scheduled for Tuesday, February 27th. After the biopsy, the pain in her shoulder was so intense, a 50 on a scale from 1-10, her primary care physician decided to have Pam admitted to Valley View Hospital to get the pain under control. Pam has been in the hospital ever since to keep her comfortable & control the pain. We all know that she is one tough lady...but this was just too much. The initial biopsy results show that Pam has Lymphoma. The lymphoma has spread to other parts of her body including a tumor on her shoulder and masses in the abdomen. The doctors feel that the tumor in her shoulder has possibly caused a fracture in the shoulder, this is what has been causing her pain. She has so far undergone three rounds of radiation to the shoulder to help shrink the tumor and help alleviate the pain. She will have more treatments on Monday & Tuesday of next week. Unfortunately, since Pam is considered in-patient at the hospital they are unable to do a full PET Scan to stage the Lymphoma. As of now, the doctor's main goal is to control the pain in the shoulder and get Pam discharged. Once she is released, her doctor will be able to complete the PET Scan and put together a plan for treatment of the Lymphoma. Although Pam has insurance there are medical costs and needs to make her comfortable at home that will not be covered by insurance.
