Monster & Sea 24 - CHA/ATL

The 24:

"There is a community of people who are fighting for you.   Our hope is that this will give you a moment of peace during a crazy time.  Love from the Monster and Sea Community."

That simple note is the mission of the 24, to raise money for families dealing with cancer.

Our goal is to offer a breath of fresh air to families dealing with the wrecking ball of cancer. It is a chance for them to feel “normal” for even just a minute. Because it is cash, they can choose how it will best help them. For example: dealing with the mountain of bills that come, even with good insurance. Gas money, food, babysitters so no appointments are missed. Family movie night, A trip out. The list is long.

We have 2 teams comprimised of 6 individuals from the Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA areas.   Not only will we be paddling for a 24 hour period from 8am, April 14th, to 8am, April 15th, but we will be inviting all our friends and families to join us on the water.

This simple idea is very special and as one person it is difficult to make a difference - but as a community - that is where it gets fun and where we truly make an impact.

Some key details:

Q: Is this a race?
A: No. It is a group of friends getting together to inspire their community to help families dealing with the chaos of cancer. Sadly the statistics say 1 in 3 people will deal with Cancer in their life time.

Q: Why 24 hours?
A: Because it is difficult. When you are dealing with cancer it is a 24/7 beast. It takes personal focus and being surrounded by your friends and family to battle and fight. While paddling in no way mimics that battle - focusing with friends, family and community for one purpose is very similar.

Q: Can other people paddle with us?
A: Absolutely. Encourage your community to come out and keep the team going.

Q: The money. How does this work?
A: Our team is raising funds for our local community. Think grass roots, on the ground help. No red tap, foundations or questions of where does the money actually go. At the end of the 24 we will withdraw the funds from the Monster & Sea account and, with special envelopes and note cards,  place the divided funds into $1,000.00 stacks/individual envelopes - with our note......now, ready for the very best part of the whole experience.

We will either deliver the envelopes in person or just slip them under the doormats and walk away. It is a transforming experience either way and one to not take lightly. Doing good - feels good. It is also sobering to understand that the very people we are helping - may not make it.

Q: Will we raise funds for just one family?
A: This is really up to our team. The original goal is to inspire the community to help the community and that is what lead to individual envelopes. Being able to help multiple families at once. But with that said - cancer sucks and if our team decides that their efforts are best focused on one family - then we will absolutely do that.

Help spread the word!  Please!!
