We are raising money for SOAR - Students on Academic Rise. SOAR is an after-school program founded in 2006 at Hopkins West Junior High in Hopkins, MN. The program provides mentoring, tutoring and leadership-building experiences for underserved youth. SOAR was founded by Kim Campbell, a proud middle school social studies teacher who was recently recognized as Minnesota Middle School Teacher of the Year.
SOAR creates an environment where academic discipline is encouraged and expected. SOAR also teaches and models intercultural skills by helping underserved youth learn how to navigate the educational system.
SOAR students participate in community building activities, leadership exercises and rigorous academic work. SOAR is partially funded by the school district, but the needs of the students and the program outpace the funding available.
SOAR works. SOAR students increase their GPAs, have fewer behavioral issues, and become leaders amongst their peers. Without the program, they may not...that is why we ask for your help!
