Here's Jack's story: Jack was a stray cat in Riverton Ct. He quite obviously had an injured leg but no one could get close enough to help him. I ended up trapping Jack in a Have-a-Hart trap. He

immediately went to the veterinarian and was diagnosed that the leg had to be amputated. I put the call out to my FaceBook friends and they came through for this little guy. We raised enough funds over night to cover the amputation at $1200.00 . Just prior to surgery Doctor Bertolino called to say that Jack had a much bigger problem than the leg. While doing the usual tests she found a very high liver count. Further x-rays provided some information that wasn't good. Jack's diaphragm was completely severed. His stomach was now located between his heart and his left lung. The lower lobe on his kidney was actually healing itself to the lobe on the bottom right lung. His intestines were mostly in his chest cavity. Somehow, this guy was still alive. The x-ray of his broken femur suggest that this injury is approximately 10 weeks old.
As of today, I'm very happy to announce that Jack had his first surgery to put his organs back where they belong. His survival ratio was extremely low but he pulled through with an amazing desire to live. Just two weeks after this major surgery, Jack once again underwent surgery, this time to remove that busted up leg. Within 2 hours of amputation, Jack was sitting up and even eating! This cat truly has the unbelievable desire to survive at any cost.
Ive been in the business of saving and feeding animals for a very long time. For the last 8 years I have been feeding dogs and cats through my Animal Food Bank. I have been a Animal Control Officer for the last 15 years. In all of my years in this field, I have never seen ANY animal with such a strong will to survive. If it weren't for my FB friends coming through in a time of need, and the outstanding care given by Doctor Bertolino this beautiful cat would not have had a second chance on life. You see, at the town level I cant spend that kind of money to save an animal. We just don't have the funding available. This cat has motivated me to a new all time level. If you will help fund our program, we will help sick, injured and hungry animals from all over. Not just here in New Hartford, Ct.
