Imagine for a moment that you had spent your life without the ability to see. You have never seen the sun set or a bird fly, you've never seen the faces of your loved ones, or your very own face. Now, imagine someone offered you the chance to finally see. This is the real-life story of one 10-year-old little girl.
Merrick
Merrick was born with optic nerve hypoplasia. Children born with this condition can have sight ranging from near normal to no light perception at all. Unfortunately for Merrick, her sight is closer to the no light perception end of the spectrum. Her vision has been tested in her right eye at 20/800 and her left at 20/1600. There has been no corrective procedure or device, until now.
What is eSight?
eSight is an electronic assisted pair of glasses created for individuals with certain extreme vision impairments (optic nerve hypoplasia is one of them). When worn they allow for sight that until now was considered impossible for many of its wearers.
A New Perspective
When Merrick was invited to test drive a pair of eSight glasses her family was cautiously hopeful, after all, the results can vary widely depending on each person's vision and condition. The results were better than anyone hoped. Merrick's sight with the glasses was tested at 20/40!
After seeing her family for the first time ever she asked to see a bird, which she says she has always wanted to see (and then she asked to see Harry Potter - no one is immune to Mr. Potter's charm after all).
Your Help
The technology that goes into these glasses does not come cheap. And unfortunately, insurance does not cover any of the costs associated with these glasses which is why we are turning to you for support.
Your contribution could mean that Merrick has more options available to her, not only for experiencing life more fully but for her future ability to care for herself and the possibility of having her own family.
