Merlin - a Soldier's Dog

Hello friends of animals,
My name is Sergeant Joel Bates of The United States Army. Presently I'm joined by my family; my wife Brittany, my 7 year old daughter Brooklynn and our precious new member Merlin now 7 months old. A few short weeks ago Merlin came to our family a broken soul, left abandoned, then captured and thrown into a terrible kill shelter where he was left in a cement floor cage barely big enough to turn around in, neutered with questionable medical precaution, thrown into a crammed transport truck and hauled 17 hours to us in Washington. He came to us scared, beaten, cold, dirty, full of fleas and sick. All of this before he's even come close to his first birthday. We received him with loving open arms and have shown him a warm and loving home. We've given him medical care and everything he needs to be happy and healthy. Unfortunately the illness he's suffering from is eluding all of our medical treatment thus far. He was treated for kennel cough, then diagnosed with pneumonia. He has been on many medications, yet still, the terrible cough and labored breathing is an every moment reality for him. Our poor Merlin who has suffered so much is still suffering and there seems to be nothing we can do.
We've decided it's time for him to be admitted to an animal hospital and given round the clock care and treatment in the hopes of saving this poor baby's life. Our family is crushed, we've all suffered along with him every moment. He sleeps with me and my wife and lays in my daughters arms during the day. On more than one occasion my daughter has been brought to tears watching her new best friend and "little brother" seemingly waste away. Our family has endured the loss of loved ones too much this year, we cannot bear the thought of losing the greatest joy in our lives. Finding him and having him with us has truly been a blessing, if not for his terrible condition. Please find it in your hearts to hear our plight and help us raise money to make this poor boy better. Give Merlin the chance at a wonderful life that he so deeply deserves and needs. We need your help. He needs your help. I know you don't know Merlin or my family, but I can promise you that every penny Merlin can see is going to give him hope, and we pray for your empathy and understanding in our time of need.
