Miracle Flight Home

My Aunt Muffett was diagnosed with Lung Cancer at the beginning of January after what she thought was just a ordinary winter cold. She quickly started preparing for course of chemo and radiation which became complicated when she had a stroke and expanded diagnosis of metastatic cancer to the brain and spine on January 12. Still being the optimist she stayed the course and had a round of chemotherapy followed by a 10 session course of whole brain radiation. We had a trip to Florida planned for February and with her oncologist blessing and a quick second round of chemo we came to Florida for our fourth annual trip. Using a wheelchair and supplemental oxygen therapy we were able to have fun in the pool at the house we rented and were able to make it to Cocoa Beach for fish tacos at The Sandbar and even onto the sand at Port Canaveral Beach with the use of their sand wheelchair! She looked like she was riding a monster truck! As vacation progressed she became weaker and more short of breath. We had hoped to just make it home Friday but we brought her to Florida Hospital Celebration Health on Thursday Eve where we found out she had really low oxygen and pneumonia. She was admitted to the ICU here and has been fighting to keep oxygen up and has been on IV antibiotics. She isn’t responding well and so now our focus is getting her stable enough for travel and get her back home to Minnesota! At this point she is not stable enough for ground travel and doesn’t qualify for insurance covered medical flight home. We are asking for help to raise enough money to pay for a medical flight home so she can be comfortable at home and close to family.
