Aviary for the Birds!

Help! I found a bird!  Since opening our doors in 2021, we have responded to this plea thousands of times, receiving more than 1,200 injured and orphaned birds who needed our help. As Georgia's only nonprofit organization dedicated to rehabilitating native birds, for every patient we admitted, we also answered several more calls from the public, providing advice and support for bird-related concerns.

 

During this time, as patients recovered, we have relied on access to the offsite aviaries of privately licensed rehabilitators to finish the course of care and prepare the birds to return to the wild. Giving our patients time to gain strength, hone their flight skills, and acclimate to the outdoors is a critical component of rehabilitation. Well-developed flight skills are vital to their ability to hunt, forage, evade predators, and flock and migrate with other birds, increasing their chances of survival in the wild.

 

Building our onsite aviary is a top priority for 2022 and is integral to our overall mission. We have launched an Aviary Campaign to raise $8,500 to construct our aviary. Any monies raised over the cost to build the aviary will support our mission to rehabilitate Georgia’s songbirds and educate the public about their conservation. We are excited and grateful to partner with a fellow nonprofit, Decatur Makers, to build the aviary, and we hope to have it completed quickly.

 

Migration and baby seasons are just around the corner, and soon we will have dozens of hungry mouths to feed. These birds will need the outdoor aviary space to complete their rehabilitation and prepare for release. Thank you for your generous support!
