This is John Cuellar. He is 8 years old, and was diagnosed with leukemia this week. John has been in ICU at Medical City in Dallas for a few days, and the doctors say he will be in the hospital for another four to five weeks. John's mom is Evan Newell Cuellar. Evan really needs financial support right now.
Evan is the single mom of four kids. Evan has just taken a new job as a 911 dispatcher for the Waxahachie PD. Her bosses have been great, but since she is new at her job, she doesn't have paid leave built up. Some of her amazing colleagues have donated their paid leave, which is so generous, and is greatly appreciated. There is still a immediate and significant financial need for Evan and her family, though. Evan has to pay for rent, utilities, gas for traveling from Ennis to Dallas, daily parking expenses, food while she is at the hospital, and all still has to meet the needs of her three other kids. She has been working a second job at Home Depot, and it's not clear if she will be able to keep that job. There is health insurance coverage for John, thankfully.
Evan tried to get help to cover uninsured medical costs. Unfortunately, that option fell through. Evan now owes about $4,250 in uninsured expenses, in addition to the regular, daily needs of her household.
