Cambodian tuk tuk driver needs your help

Mr. Riem is a popular Tuk Tuk driver in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He has a wife, 21year old daughter and a 13 year old son. His daughter, Srey Neath is in her final year at the university, but she is about to be drop out with only six months left because her parents are unable to pay the meager $200/year tuition. His son, Chettra is in Khmer high school where English classes are not offered. He hopes to be able to afford to continue taking his English classes soon. Riem’s wife, Thida is very sweet, but very ill. This is the reason he had to sell his tuk tuk in the first place. She is very weak and has trouble breathing on a daily basis.

The entire family's livelihood depends on Riem’s tuk tuk income. Right now the family has been evicted from their house by the bank. Riem initially borrowed money to buy the house and to pay for his wife’s medical bills. However, business has been slow and he fell behind on payments. The bank has now taken everything from them and all four of them have been forced to move into a single room studio apartment with no kitchen. With nothing else to offer, he sold the family's only surviving means, the tuk tuk, to raise part of his daughter's tuition fee and for family up keep.

Life has been very hard for them and a seemly happy man is going down slowly as he has no job and no money to support his family. We are trying to raise funds to buy him a used or new tuk tuk which will cost $800-$1000, to rent him and his family an affordable two bedroom apartment with a few months upfront payment of about $150-$200 per month, and some money for immediate needs for the entire family. We will also accept material donations from anyone around Phnom Penh as these are pressing needs. Sadly, we were told the daughter who studies hospitality and tourism at the university is about ten days behind on her tuition. This attracts a $1 fine per day for delayed payment according to school rules. Problems keep multiplying and the worried, sick wife's condition is getting worse.

We all have problems and we all have needs. Although sometimes we come across people who’s needs greatly surpass ours. No matter what side of the world you are reading this from, this is a chance to help replace the smile on this family’s face and to be there for them in their most trying time.
