Send 2 Culinary Historians To Ghana!

Donation protected

The guy on the left is chef Harold Caldwell, a passionate culinary historian and seasoned historic interpreter who honors the lives of enslaved Africans and free people of color day in and day out. He's never been to Africa. The guy on the right is chef Michael W. Twitty, the first Rw author of The Cooking Gene: A Journey Through African American Foodways in The Old South. He's never been to Ghana. Every one of his grandparents had several ancestors from Ghana according to DNA. Together these two brothers are working frantically to document the roots of African American foodways and to bridge the gap between West and Central Africa and America. We are going on a tour with www.RootstoGlory.com and we need a little help from you to seal the deal and make it possible. Going to Africa is not cheap. Visas, yellow fever vaccinations, malaria pills and a host of other expenses are making it tough to go on our reconnaissance mission to recover and honor a deep part of our heritage. We leave March 10 on a culinary pilgrimage to Ghana if all goes well but we need your help. Our goal is to make our findings accessible to the social media community and establish a program to get more African American chefs to West Africa to discover the roots of soul food as well as get reconciliation trips going where Southerners of all backgrounds can explore the African roots of the South together.
