Moving Fund

Hello, my name is Maida Macdonald and being vulnerable is not not my best thing. My first sentence as a child was “my by self” and I’ve lived by a strictly independent streak since then. I would not be asking for help if I wasn’t desperate to leave.

Five years ago, my husband and I left Victoria (my home town) to live closer to his family and find jobs. I also used this space away from Victoria to report my rapist and heal from that trauma.

When my partner and I moved to Beaverlodge the agreement was (amongst other things) that we would move back to Victoria or Vancouver after 5 years. This would give him ample time to complete his Electrical training. At the time he agreed to this because he recognized that we were moving somewhere he knew I would never agree to live if I didn’t love him. He was right, since moving to rural northern Alberta I have witnessed and experienced more homophobia, misogyny, animal cruelty and xenophobia than I was aware we still had in Canada.

My partner decided while we were here that he wanted to save up, in his words he wouldn’t be comfortable moving back to BC with less than a particular number in his bank account. To that end I have been handling much of our expenses for most of the past 5 years, while making less money, with the expectation that I was helping to facilitate the saving that would help us move out of Beaverlodge. Although his goal has long since past, we’ve never renegotiated who pays which bills.

Over the past few years, in part due to the climate in Beaverlodge, my health has deteriorated. I have several confirmed diagnosis that have cropped up including PCOS, PTSD, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, osteoarthritis and the list goes on. Due to this I have had to take on less and less work, and due to this I have made the decision to change careers and move home to Victoria where I will have access to better medical support.

Unfortunately, my partner has decided not to join me, and to in effect end our relationship.

So, I am asking for help from my family and friends. Please help me move home and get healthy.

Any donations (from people in Victoria) over 15$ will receive a “dollar a minute” deep tissue relaxation massage.

Any donations over 50$ (from people in Victoria) will have a gourmet vegetarian dinner made by me (after I’ve moved) followed by the “dollar a minute” Massage.


All donations will be used for moving expenses.
