Send Laura Down Under (U Queensland)

My daughter Laura is headed to Brisbane in June to attend the University of Queensland to pursue her dream of a Bachelor Degree in marine biology. Many of you know her story - her college career was interrupted by seizures and a diagnosis of epilepsy at age 19, a horrible car accident and broken neck at age 21 and brain surgery to eliminate her seizures at age 22. She recovered from all of this intense trauma and went on to get her AS in Horticulture in 2014. She’s been working at a native plant nursery and small farm on Maui for the past four years and is now ready to complete her education. Through work study, she completed her AS with ZERO DEBT but for this chapter, she will have to take out student loans. I want to raise $20,000 to match the loan she is taking out for her first year and to cover her tuition deposit, oversea health insurance and moving costs. While Laura has been seizure free since her surgery in 2009, she does still have challenges related to epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. I want to remove this initial financial barrier so she can focus fully on school. This is a courageous move and I’m struck with awe and admiration for her drive and passion, despite her challenges. I have every confidence that she will be successful and go on to make a difference in the world. Her mission is ocean health. Through her education and experience with agriculture - and this next chapter of education in marine biology, she will be well equipped to follow her passion and do the good, hard work that she loves to make the world a healthier place for all of us.
