Wheels for Charlotte

Charlotte was in a critical motorcycle accident in August 2012 which left her as a tetraplegic. She has a wheel chair for everyday use and that can easily be transported. However, she has the opportunity to also get a chair that will allow her to stand but insurance will not cover the entire cost. We are hoping to raise $8,000 to cover the remaining cost of a standing wheelchair that will allow her more independence such as standing at the kitchen counter to make dinner for her family, standing at the changing table to change her babies diaper and many other daily tasks that most of us take for granted each day. In addition to the independence it is also good for her health to help keep circulation flowing, eliminate pressure point sores, reduce muscle spasticity and increasing bone density to name just a few. Standing for at least one hour per day offers her all of these health benefits.

In the event we raise more than $8,000 the remaining money will be used towards the purchase of a handicapped accessible van that she could drive (she is currently in rehab clinic and learning to drive with her hands is one of the tasks she will be learning). As a young mother to three young children it is very important for Charlotte to have a sense of independence and not need to continually rely on her parents (whom she is currently living with) to transport her and her children to any appointments, events or just a trip to the park.
