My Social Work Internship in South Africa!
Donation protected
Big things are happening and I’m so excited!! A little nervous, but so excited!!
After three years of hard work, I’m proud to share that I’ll be graduating from UW of Eau Claire in May with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work - a year ahead of schedule! After earning high honors and making the Dean’s List all but one semester, I’m confident I’ll be ready to tackle graduate school at Milwaukee in the fall. But in the meantime… I’m going to South Africa to intern at a children's home!!
As one of only three students selected for this international internship opportunity, I’ll be hopping a one-way flight to start my South African journey just a few hours after walking the stage at graduation. I’ll arrive in Cape Town before flying on to Durban, where I’ll live independently and work for three months as an intern at the Durban Child and Youth Care Centre. Three months, how cool is that?!
The only downside is that there is no financial assistance available for the internship, so I’m responsible for my flights, room and board, cost of living, the whole deal. I’ve worked all through school and have some money saved up, but with being unable to save all summer while I’m gone and then starting graduate school just a couple weeks after I return (and the new apartment and enrollment costs that will come with that), I’m nervous that it won’t be enough.
I hate to ask, but I figure if you’re as proud of me as I am maybe you wouldn’t mind donating a few dollars toward this next phase of my adventure. South Africa, here I come!
