medical expenses for my mom.

I set this page up for my mom, Debby Hattaway, who was diagnosed with cancer this past month (October). For those that don't know her; a little background. She began losing her hearing in her mid-twenties, by the time she was in her 30's she was completely deaf. Not only did she take this on with a smile, she truly became an inspiration to anyone that met her. She later became a Type I diabetic; again, fought it head-on with the same smile and good nature. She fought many years to keep it under control and has not always had the best of health, but has always kept the best attitude about it. In 2011 she fell and broke her hip, at 61 she had a complete hip replacement. She spent a few months in rehab, away from her home, family and in a world where no one could communicate with her properly through sign language. Through all of this she kept her sense of humor, never throwing herself a pity party. Now, 2013 she is faced with Colorectal cancer. It is not going to be an easy surgery or even recovery for her. The life that she knows is going to be completely turned upside down. Now, I say all of this not because she is a Saint, but because she is the most loving, upbeat person you will ever met! She loves her family with an unwaivering love (even though we don't always deserve it), she makes friends with everyone she meets, and she loves her Dallas Cowboys. She will be going to UAB this month (November) for surgery. My dad is a retired school bus driver and mom was always a stay at home mom, so funds are extremely tight for them. She only has Medicare for an insurance and is scared that it's not going to be enough. We don't know how long she will be there, or how many trips she will have to make, (we live 3 hours from Birmingham). I don't want her to have to worry about gas, food and hotel for my dad while he is there with her...My sister's and I set this up because we know there are good people out there, and that every little bit helps!! We thank you with all of our hearts for helping our family out. We are all scared of losing this fantastic woman, but we know she is a fighter!! Cancer picked the wrong family this time! Thank you for taking the time to read this. God Bless you!

Sincerely,
Vickie, Nicole, and Dey (Hattaway)
